According to Western astrology, on October 5 we saw the beginning of what is regarded as a planetary bump in the road: Venus is in retrograde until November 16, 2018. Say "Venus," and images of the goddess of love, beauty and harmony may be one of the first things that come to mind. She typically bestows a boatful of love, harmony and abundance. But take these positive attributes and send them on a U-turn: the closer you get to the curve, the stronger you might feel like you’ve sailed into a storm and your boat is taking in water.
Some believe that this particular Venus retrograde could interrupt the flow of our most important ties, resurrect old issues, unbottle forgotten emotional leftovers from previous relationships, and stir up unresolved matters about value and abundance, self-worth and love. Those who follow astrology concur it’s going to thrust you out of your comfort zone - but is this entirely unavoidable?
A retrograde, which means a backwards step, is when a planet seems to be moving backwards in its orbit, in relation to the Sun. It isn't really doing this, it just appears to do so, yet it invariably unleashes some sort of disruption, conflict, opposition, a contrary position, to most of the qualities the planet represents. It's astrological mayhem! With Venus retrograde, it means your love-life can be in peril, your relationships could be tested, old unresolved issues can come back to haunt you and money and abundance worries may return with a vengeance. For some, it may come as a question about their worthiness to be loved. Are we then at the mercy of a month-long, joyless ride courtesy of the stars? Or is it instead an opportunity to revisit, to observe, notice, experience and let go of outgrown patterns? We asked our Reconnective Healing team of experts, and their answer is a resounding “Yes!” This is an opportunity to move past our fears and perceptions.
We all have retro moments whether brought upon by astrological configuration or the way we live our path. How often have you found yourself realizing that you've "done this before,” that you've fallen into the same patterns over and over again? Maybe it's your choice of partner, or setting goals that you don't keep. When it comes to love, these retro moments let us see how we tend to hang onto the past, as well as fall into denial about love changing in our lives and how that changed us. Our experience of love pretty much defines our relationship with love and our understanding of what self-love is. It's easy to find ourselves thinking of bad luck or divine punishment when our past is presented to us in ways that cause us distress. Revisiting unresolved matters can be unsettling. But if we can see beyond the immediate discomfort these retro moments can generate, they are a real gift, a golden chance to examine just what it is we are hanging onto, and help us break old patterns once and for all.
There is plenty of advice, steps and rituals to follow if you want to “survive” a retrograde and, in particular, this potentially unhinging Venus turnabout. Yet, for those who interact with the Reconnective Healing® frequencies, it's just a matter of becoming aware of the frequencies themselves, as this brings us automatically into a space of observation, where things happen around us and inside us, and yet we can remain detached without any special skills or preparation. Being able to observe and experience without trying to control the outcome of a situation keeps in perspective whatever Venus throws our way, whether it's barbed terrain through love's memory lane or facing our deepest financial fears. As we bathe in these frequencies, we also let the field that they generate expand around us, and pretty soon chaotic situations start to pipe down while a powerful calmness permeates everything. In this pure energy interaction with all living things, everything benefits, even the environment. We often sense how the space around us starts to feel lighter.
Whether we subscribe to astrological predictions or our own inner compass, we benefit enormously from these retro moments and, in particular, those in which love takes a step back and shows us that there is room for change and self-improvement. Rediscovering where our core roadblocks in love and relationships are, and reigniting our sense of self-love, need not be a rollercoaster. As anyone in the Reconnective Healing family will agree, any retrograde is tempered by the soothing influence of the Reconnective Healing frequencies.
