What we believe may be intrinsic to our human nature. Automatic beliefs are a way of understanding our complex world and give us a sense of control in our unpredictable reality. While beliefs help us ground ourselves and cope with life’s events, they can also become barriers to our expansion, forming walls of fear around us that keep us “stuck.”
How often have you taken stock of what beliefs might be holding you back?
You have the innate ability to connect with your true nature through your instinct. Yet we have been encouraged to disregard instincts and intuition because we are conditioned to believe that logic and analytical thinking are superior to what our gut is telling us.
Lauren shared a profound realization that she had during her Reconnective Healing O.N.E. Experience Weekend about her need to search externally for validation in order to feel qualified enough and worthy enough.
“This weekend, most importantly has been such a self-journey… and I never expected to be at a training that was all focused on you already have what you need. It’s just about realizing that power.”
- Lauren Johnson
“Beliefs are our natural way of thinking and may be part of our genetic makeup because they are adaptive. We have a fundamental need to tell ourselves stories that make sense of our lives. We hate uncertainty and, for life and death issues, find it intolerable.” - From You have to believe in something by Lewis Wolpert, developmental biologist of University College London
What is instinct?
-
Our inclination toward a behavior that gives us the ability to cope with environmental stimuli
All beliefs carry a component of doubt in them. We may assert our beliefs as truth because we need to believe them ourselves! Yet there is a point where we can move past beliefs and into knowingness. We can understand an inner truth that is devoid of questioning and does not need to be defended nor does it validate who we are because it shows us who we are.
What gets in the way of our own ability to access our true nature and trust our instincts?
-
Looking for external validation to make key decisions
-
Caring too much about other peoples’ perception of us due to social pressures
