EPISODE 4: FREEDOM
It’s impossible not to feel the stirring of emotions when we hear a rallying cry for freedom. It seems to be intrinsic to our very nature to seek it regardless of cost. Yet, while we have historically taken on and overcome insurmountable challenges on our path to liberation, defining just what this freedom means quickly becomes ensnared in expectations and definitions, ironically boxing us in. Our constant search for an external freedom further separates us from the understanding that all freedom is internal.
In this 4-part episode we examine how our definition and preconceived notions about freedom influence our experience of freedom and our sense of having it or not. Each segment delves into six to seven questions, each one guiding us to a new discovery about transformation and our relationship with it. Each segment has its own workbook to help you go deeper into your own perception and notions, and help track your self-discoveries.
- DEFINING FREEDOM
Freedom is one of the gifts that Reconnective Healing brings into our lives. But what is freedom? We all have a concept of it, based on our perception and understanding of it, but sometimes we see that the same definition does not apply across the board. In this series of questions we will explore what freedom means, and ultimately, is.
- PERCEPTION OF FREEDOM
Being free and perceiving that freedom are two separate things. The first is a state in which we may live and/or exist, while the second may be predicated upon a preconceived notion of what freedom is or should be – and that might prevent us from recognizing or cognizantly experiencing freedom.
- EXPECTATIONS AND FREEDOM
We each carry a personal concept of what freedom means - and then there are collective expectations of what freedom is. Most of these are on opinions deemed to be factual. Yet facts and opinions change constantly. How does that affect our understanding of expectations and freedom?
- DESERVING FREEDOM
As we attempt to understand and harness our inner sense of freedom, we come up with rules and boundaries meant to make freedom look and feel the same for all – and we often go to extremes trying to maintain this perception. In our need to control, we may have turned our freedom instinct into an issue of worthiness, a ruler to measure others and ourselves. Who deserves freedom?
